Fantom Ecosystem Spotlight – JulWallet
If you’ve had a chance to listen to the AMAs that the Fantom executive team regularly holds on FTM Alerts, then you know that the Fantom team places a high premium on dApps that cater to both new and experienced crypto users. For instance, we all know that a cheap, fast Layer-1 like Fantom is great for payments, but what will create further demand for crypto payment services, specifically among crypto newbies? This is where the star of this week’s spotlight, JulWallet, comes in. Keep reading to learn how this fantastic project is making Fantom available for daily use.
1. What is JulWallet?
JulWallet is a non-custodial crypto wallet with an integrated, decentralized crypto debit card (Visa virtual card for Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay) available in more than 170 countries.
The JulCard allows you to spend your crypto with over 60 million merchants worldwide who accept Visa.
2. How do you introduce JulWallet to a DeFi novice?
If you have crypto and want to use it to buy goods without hassle all over the world, download the JullWallet, finish your KYC, and start using the JulCard to pay!
3. Can you give us a rundown of what JulWallet offers?
The JulWallet enables you to access your crypto on a fully decentralized app. You can access your crypto using the virtual Visa card JulCard, and spend your crypto in over 60 million shops worldwide.
We support multiple chains and are working on integrating a bridge system that will allow cross-chain swaps.
4. How did you come up with JulWallet, and what inspired you?
Bitcoin and crypto were built to remove third parties from the payments process. But the issue is that people still use crypto payments systems that are centralized and that require a third party.
Your crypto should always be yours rather than being managed by someone else. We noticed the problem, and we set out to develop the JulWallet and JulCard.
5. What are the team members’ backgrounds?

The remaining JulWallet team members include 11 full-time developers. We have all worked together for six years.
6. How did you learn about Fantom?
We found Fantom on Twitter after many people talked about it. We gave it a try, and after we tested the network and noted its great potential, webegan building on it.
When we started, Fantom was, as far as we know, the only stable EVM blockchain with high speeds and cheap transaction fees.
7. Why did you decide to build on Fantom?
Before building on a chain, we check the speed, block-time, and up-time.
If a project meets our requirements, we look at the network security infrastructure. If satisfied, we deploy our contracts and test. All the steps worked out perfectly on Fantom.
8. What do you think is needed to accelerate DeFi retail adoption?
Changing people’s mindsets does not work.
We need to provide people the opportunity to participate in DeFi without knowing that they are using DeFi. Until today, this wasn’t possible.
Take logging into dApps, for example, which has become much easier than logging into Web2 apps that require usernames and passwords. In Web3, all you need is an app like JulWallet, your seed phrase, and that’s it. Usernames, passwords, and 2FA are no longer needed.
9. How did the Fantom community receive JulWallet?
The Fantom community loves the product because it supports the blockchain and makes it easy for the community to spend their crypto in a decentralized way ‒ all with just a few clicks and a little time.
10. What’s coming up for JulWallet? Free alpha!
After testing the app's Beta version, we plan to launch the product in June on app stores for all people.
The next steps will be to improve the technology, to make it faster and easier to use. More features will come, but this is the biggest priority now.
11. What advice can you share with developers thinking of building on Fantom?
I suggest taking a look and giving it a try if you are looking for something fast and not too expensive in terms of transaction costs. You can simply deploy your smart contracts from other EVM chains.
12. Is there anything we didn’t ask, and you’d like to share?
I want to thank our community and the Fantom community for the support they have shown us.
Finally, come join our live beta test on iOS Tesflight!
