Fantom Finance, DeFi aggregated

Fantom Finance, DeFi aggregated

Is Fantom Finance dead? Nope, Fantom Finance is more alive than ever! Some clarity about the all-in-one DeFi suite on Fantom.

Fantom Finance, where it started

More than a year ago, before the DeFi explosion we saw in 2020, the core team came up with the idea of an all-in-one DeFi suite integrated into the Fantom wallet. It would feature minting of synthetic assets, A.M.M. trading, lending, and borrowing.

In 2020, we released fMint to mint tokens using FTM as collateral. We then worked on fLend and fTrade, but we realized that forking and adapting existing protocols wasn’t the best solution.

These were our concerns:

  • How can we build extremely safe products?
  • What would happen if the protocols we were adapting would port natively to Fantom?

The two questions are related, and from a user perspective, existing, battle-tested products on Ethereum are more trusted and more secure to use. Additionally, from a user experience standpoint, there would be no new learning to do.

Fantom Finance, the road ahead

Now that Ethereum protocols are deploying on Fantom, we can integrate those instead.

We still believe that an all-in-one DeFi suite that enables users to lend, borrow, and trade is a significant value proposition.

Such a tool is invaluable for both existing users and newcomers as they would have all they need in one place. We all know how frustrating it can be to hop from one dApp to another!

With Fantom Finance, we’re aggregating the most relevant protocols within the app. And not just that. We’ll make the experience as simple as possible, removing as much friction we can.

fTrade will only be used for swapping tokens.
More experienced users who want to provide liquidity and are familiar with impermanent loss and risk management will be able to do so in a different wallet section, tentatively called fPool.

Design exploration for fTrade

For fTrade we will integrate SushiSwap or, even better, a DEX aggregator once available. Similarly, for fLend, we will integrate C.R.E.A.M. or a lending and borrowing aggregator once available.

Design exploration for fLend

Aggregators would allow us to be protocol-agnostic and to offer a wide range of options to the users.

Fantom Finance isn’t dead. It just got way better than we originally planned.

For those who can’t wait, remember that you can already use all the tools mentioned above. You can swap Fantom-based assets on SushiSwap and lend and borrow them on C.R.E.A.M.
